How California state income tax works
California uses a graduated (progressive) income tax with 10 brackets, from 1% on your first dollars up to a top rate of 13.3%. Only the income that falls in each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate. Its standard deduction is $5,706 for single filers and $11,412 for married couples filing jointly.
